Safety Drills
Our district strives for several different goals. Our single most important priority is student safety and building security. Another valued goal is strong and clear communication. With those things in mind, I want to inform you that we had our first preplanned lockdown drill at Pinewood.
In order to make this safety training as effective as possible, we shared with students and staff that a lockdown drill would take place at 9:55 a.m. The drill was over by 9:06 a.m. Today’s drill focused on letting students and staff hear the lockdown message over the public address system and to have classroom teachers review lockdown procedures. Students were with s teacher during the drill. Educators and administrators will also be available to follow up with students if they have any questions following the drill.
Minnesota state statute requires schools to have 5 fire drills, 5 lockdown drills and 1 severe weather drill. So far, we have completed four fire drills and today’s lockdown drill.
We assure you that we will continue to spend time, money, and energy investing in the best safety and security practices in order to create the best, most secure possible learning environment for “Every Kid, Every Day.”
Enjoy the warm weather this weekend,
