Future Chef Competition is a delicious (and nutritious) success

One of the annual highlights at each ISD 882 elementary school is the Sodexo Future Chef Competition!

The 2018-2019 theme was Healthy Fiesta Fit - Healthy Mexican Food! A total of 43 fourth and fifth grade students submitted some great recipes in the hopes of competing for the 2018-2019 Future Chef title. Two fourth and two fifth graders were selected from each elementary school and met up on Wednesday, March 13 at Little Mountain to prepare their recipes for a panel of judges.

The district had four judges for this year’s event, and they were: Brody D. - last years Future Chef winner; Tina Burkholder  - Director of Finance, and Jennifer Lewis Kannegieter and Melissa Curtis, both Monticello School Board Members. After trying each creation, the judges rated the dishes on Taste, Originality, Ease of Preparation, Healthy Attributes, Kid Appeal, Presentation. There was a lot of slicing, dicing, and chopping this year and the recipes prepared were nothing short of delectable.

When all the scores were tallied, this year’s winner was Klara Schultz of Little Mountain Elementary serving up amazing Taco Lettuce Wraps with Fiesta Sour Cream!

Klara's recipe received an additional major honor when it was selected as one of the top 40 recipes from Future Chef competitions around the nation. Klara’s recipe was one of 257 submitted, putting it in the top 15 percent of all recipes!
