Years teaching in Monticello:13
Tell us a little about yourself? I grew up in Wisconsin, the son of a Psychology professor and the youngest of 9 kids. I graduated college from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse with a degree in Broadfield Science education. I received my masters degree from Montana State - Bozeman in Physics education.
Why did you choose the teaching profession? Throughout my college years I tested out fields of study including Physics, Computer Science, and Astronomy but I was always drawn to the idea of teaching by listening to stories from my dad’s career. I likened teaching to being a performer and educating while entertaining felt like it might make for an interesting career.
What is the best thing about teaching in Monticello? The best thing about teaching in Monticello is the unwavering support from staff, administration, and the community that encourages me to try new things in the classroom.
What is your proudest moment as a teacher? My proudest moments come when I hear back from former students who mention how something in their lives was influenced by taking one of my classes.
What advice would you give a young adult who is thinking about a teaching career? Teach what you love, the enthusiasm you exude for your subject matter will be infectious.
