Tell us a little about yourself
I am a mom of two young adult daughters. I enjoy running and have run 8 marathons and have qualified for Boston three times. I love all things Disney, especially Mickey Mouse. Crafting, reading and traveling are also favorite activities.
Why did you choose the teaching profession?
From the time I was a little girl with my classroom set up in my basement, teaching my class of stuffed animals and dolls, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. When I went to college I had the intention of becoming an elementary teacher or a math teacher. All of that changed when I took a Communication Disorders class and realized I wanted to help children develop and improve their speech and language skills.
What is the best thing about teaching in Monticello?
The students of course! They all have unique gifts and everyday is a new adventure.
What is your proudest moment as a teacher?
I am not sure that I am able to name my proudest moment as a teacher. However, I have had the joy of experiencing so many “wins”, breakthroughs, lightbulb moments with my students that they all add up to being great moments and make me feel proud to have had a hand in their education.
What advice would you give a young adult who is thinking about a teaching career?
My advice to anyone who is interested in a teaching career would be, if you want to impact the lives of the next generation and teach them the skills they need to achieve their dreams, then teaching is for you.
