MTSS

Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a systemic, continuous improvement framework for ensuring positive social, emotional, behavioral, developmental, and academic outcomes for every student. MTSS provides access to layered tiers of culturally and linguistically responsive, evidence-based practices and relies on the understanding and belief that every student can learn and thrive. In addition, MTSS uses data-based problem solving and decision-making across all levels of the educational system to support all students (including students receiving special education and English language development services).

MTSS is a foundational paradigm, meaning that every practice, procedure, and policy in the district can be viewed meaningfully through the lens of MTSS. MTSS is at the core of Monticello's mission because when schools organize their supports within this framework, effectiveness increases and everyone benefits. Every kid, every day!

Minnesota's MnMTSS framework (est. 2021) includes five components: 

1. Infrastructure for Continuous Improvement: Infrastructure builds on Monticello's mission, vision, and core beliefs with collaboratively linked teams designed to ensure necessary resources are available (e.g., schedules, curriculum, training, coaching) and implementation plans are developed with shared accountability. Learn more.
2. Family and Community Engagement:  Family and community engagement depends on reciprocal relational trust and equitable partnerships with families to create shared responsibility between all stakeholders to improve student experiences and outcomes. Learn more.
3. Multi-Layered Practices and Support: All students deserve strong Tier 1 (core) instruction upon which we can layer Tier 2 (supplemental) and Tier 3 (intensive) supports. Learn more.
