Monticello School District Launches Community Partnership Initiative to Boost Early Literacy

The Monticello School District proudly announces its partnership with local community members in a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing early literacy development across the community. With a unified goal of fostering motivation, education, and engaging opportunities, the initiative seeks to harness the wealth of child development resources available in the Monticello Community.

Recent data revealing that a staggering 500,000 children in Minnesota, from kindergarten to 12th grade, struggle with proficient reading skills has prompted the district to take action. Leveraging local resources and connections unique to Monticello, the initiative aims to provide families with unparalleled access to services and resources essential for achieving literacy goals.

Our mission is clear: To unite Monticello and build the highest reading proficiency scores with the fewest inequities than any other school district and accomplish it in record breaking time. Outlined benchmarks include ensuring that young brains are primed for literacy development by age three, achieving proficiency in reading at each grade level, and implementing evidence-based literacy instruction across all grades.

The initiative kicked off with a successful inaugural meeting held in February, where participants engaged in brainstorming sessions, forged valuable connections within the community, and set the stage for future endeavors. We will keep you posted on unification of early literacy plans across the community!
