TRUTH IN TAXATION
At the December 2, 2019 School Board meeting, the School Board held its Truth in Taxation hearing. The recommended levy is $567,220.22 less than the 2018 payable 2019 property tax levy. This represents a -4.44% change in total school property taxes.
In the presentation, there are a couple of residential property tax examples estimated by Ehlers, the District's financial advisors. If property values would have remained the same, residents would have seen a slight decrease in their school district property taxes. By using an average property value estimated increase of 11.4% over 4 years, Ehlers continued to estimate some property tax decreases. Tax payers will more than likely notice a difference on their property statements where their voter-approved levies are decreasing and their non-voter approved levies are increasing. During the 2019 legislative session, the Legislature converted $300 of a school district's operating referendum and moved it to the local optional revenue. Instead of seeing an operating referendum of $823.96 per pupil (with the inflation factor) and local optional revenue of $424 per pupil, the District is seeing an operating referendum of $523.96 per pupil and local optional revenue of $724 per pupil.
